Blog Series: Small ways to update your space that make a big impact. Hardware.

In our new blog series we want to talk about small changes you can make in your home that will have a big impact. Over the next three posts we’re going to look at hardware, art, and lighting and how swapping or adding these will make a big difference in your home.

Sometimes when you move into a new home or apartment you have to tackle your decorating in phases. Maybe you have a plan for a large renovation 5,10, or 15 years down the road or maybe all the expenses involved in purchasing a home and moving ate your budget and you won’t be able to repaint for another 1-2 years.

Either way, there are small updates you can make in what we like to call Phase 1. We always recommend a Phase 1 plan for our clients who aren’t able to make large scale changes for a while.

Hardware

Swapping out hardware is one of our favorite ways to take a builder grade or older home and make it feel custom and current. And while the kitchen is the most obvious room for a hardware replacement, this can really be done anywhere. From bathrooms to closet doors to dressers in the bedroom this can make a huge difference and won’t make a huge dent in your budget.

Some hardware tips:

  • Our favorite finished are brass, polished nickel and matte black for a modern farmhouse look.

  • Don’t be afraid to mix your metals! We think this can really elevate your space. If you have nickel faucets don’t be afraid to go for a brass or matte black pull. If your pendants are brass go for some polished nickel hardware to add some contrast. While we love a good mix, we recommend no more than two finishes in your room.

  • Just remember to measure the distance between the holes in your door if you to ensure you are ordering hardware that will fit!

We love Rejuvenation, build.com and even Etsy for hardware. Check out some of our favorites below.
